Why happiness leads to weight loss

Why happiness leads to weight loss

Ever wondered if staying happy can also contribute to weight loss? Well, the scholars of the University of Utah wondered so and found the truth behind this belief.

You may have several blogs and articles which discuss the impulsive attitude of people and its drawback when they are sad and melancholic. Heartbreaks and ice creams always come in a combo and weight gain is a complimentary gift.

But did it ever come to your mind that if sadness results in weight gain, is happiness related to weight loss?

Let's find out the answer below-

Serotonin is also known as the "happy chemical". When we are happy the level of this chemical increases in our body. Serotonin prevents us from taking rash and impulsive decisions, one of which is overeating.

Our mood affects our eating manners and choices. When we are sad, we overeat or cut down meals. Stress and tension also make us skip our diets. Mood and food are siblings. When we are happy, it shows its effect on our eating pattern. We eat at regular intervals and chose a healthy meal. Even the food has a positive impact on our body and mood.

Whenever we enter a health management program, a gym, or a yoga session, the first thing that we are told to do is to stay happy. Happiness is linked to fitness and healthy weight loss, whereas, sad, depressed or people with low self-esteem generally suffer from abnormal weight gain, obesity, and other health issues. We always find that happy people look nice, feel nice and spread positive vibes all around them. If a person is happy, he is very likely to take good care of himself and lead an active and energetic life.

Sometimes, we are so busy with our job, studies, or other demands of life that we stop giving time to ourselves. It is necessary to pay attention to ourselves and try to be happy. Below are some ways by which we can seek happiness in our daily lives:

  • Spend quality time with family and friends. If you have such a lifestyle in which you cannot meet your family every day, make sure that you take out a couple of hours every week to meet them. It will have a positive impact on your body.
  • Workout regularly and meditate daily. It reduces your stress level and makes you feel good.
  • Smile as much as you can. Smiling spreads positivism.
  • Join a hobby course or take part in some social work. You will always find happiness when you do something you like or when you help others.

Staying happy is more important than earning a million dollars. As they say, "Health is Wealth", and happiness is the key to a healthy body, therefore, never forget to smile.
